May 7, 2020

Hello Students:

We miss you! We know many of you are staying busy doing schoolwork. Do your best to stay active, get enough sleep, and maintain positivity. Don’t forget to prioritize self care.

  • Counselors made a special video for you all this week. We hope you enjoy it :) Check out our dance moves!
  • Summer school forms are being sent to students and parents/guardians via School Loop this week. If you do not receive a form by this Saturday (May 9) and you believe you need summer school, please contact your counselor ASAP.
  • If you have not yet done so, please take a moment to fill out a quick survey for your counselors, so that we can determine best ways to support you during this time: AHS Student Survey
  • Need some inspiration on what to do in your free time? Try these ideas! With appropriate social distancing, of course.
    • Get outside and enjoy the sunshine!
    • Cook or bake for your loved ones
    • Read a great book
    • Paint/draw/craft
    • Family games
    • Hang out with your pet

Counselors are available for virtual appointments (via Zoom) Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 3:30pm. We regularly check School Loop, emails, and voicemails during these hours. Please be aware that counselors may not check School Loop, email, or voicemail on weekdays after 3:30pm or on weekends.

If you are experiencing an emergency or are in crisis, please dial 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Additional resources:

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255 (available 24 hours/day)
  • Alameda County Crisis Support Services Crisis Line: 1-800-309-2131 (24 hours/day)
  • Alameda County Crisis Support Services Local Text Line: TEXT SAFE TO 20121 (4:00 pm - 11:00 pm, 7 days/week). Available for Alameda County residents only.

To request a Zoom appointment with your counselor about a non-emergency situation, please send a message via School Loop, email, or leave a voicemail for your counselor. If you have preferred days/times to meet, please indicate these as well. All appointments must be confirmed by your counselor. Once confirmed, it is very important that you are available for your confirmed appointment time. If you are not available at your confirmed time, your appointment will be cancelled.

Please remember that your counselors are here to help you. If at any point a counselor is concerned about your safety, we will take the necessary precautions to ensure your safety.

  • Stay active during the day and take breaks during your school work hours.
  • Stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Build in fun, self-care, relaxation, and connection with others.

Your counselors are thinking of you and we wanted to remind you that we are still here for you during this time. Counselors are available Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 3:30pm. We regularly check School Loop, emails, and voicemails during these hours. Please be aware that counselors may not check School Loop, email, or voicemail on weekdays after 3:30pm or on weekends.

  • Alameda County Crisis Support Services Local Text Line: TEXT SAFE TO 20121 (4:00 pm - 11:00 pm, 7 days/week). Available for Alameda County residents only.

March 16, 2020

Hello Students:

We hope that you are staying healthy and safe. During this time that you are away from school, it will be important to keep a routine while you are at home. Here are some helpful things that you can do:

  • Set a schedule and get dressed everyday. Structured days with regular mealtimes and bedtimes are an essential part of being healthy.

  • Stay connected. Social distancing is important, but it is also important to remain connected to others. You can have phone conversations, text, write emails, play board games, spend time with pets, and reach out to friends and family via facetime, google hangouts, or any other video platform.

  • Be mindful of media intake. Social media and the news can be overwhelming. It may be helpful to spend some time away from social media and/or the news each day.

  • Stay active. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Some additional activities may include: drawing, coloring, journaling, listening to music, reading a book.

We know that you may have questions and/or concerns during this time. Below are the best ways to contact your counselor while school is closed. Counselors will be available Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 3:30pm. We will regularly check School Loop, emails, and voicemails during these hours.

If you wish to speak with a counselor about a non-emergency situation, please send a message via School Loop, email, or leave a voicemail for your counselor with your question/concern. We will respond to School Loop messages, emails, and voicemails throughout each weekday. Counselors will also be available for virtual/distance counseling during this time through an application called Zoom. You can access this application on your phone or computer (https://zoom.us/download). Zoom will require you to create an account, which will include entering a personal email address (do not use your GAFE account).

To request a virtual appointment with your counselor, please send a message via School Loop, email, or leave a voicemail for your counselor. If you have preferred days/times to meet, please indicate these as well. All appointments must be confirmed by your counselor. Once confirmed, it is very important that you are available for your confirmed appointment time. If you are not available at your confirmed time, your appointment will be cancelled.
